THE
GREAT PASSAGE
The fraternal
world's most powerful journey begins here, and lasts for life.
Through Associate Member
Orientation, a Big Brother Program, Impact Leadership,
a comprehensive four-year fraternity education program, and the Joseph T.
Charles Mentor Leadership Program, Lambda Chi Alpha is the leader in the
fraternal world for personal development.
Are you
ready?
Since 1984, the men of Lambda Chi at AUM have been actively seeking out the
best and brightest men on campus to continue the proud traditions of the
Fraternity. Other than a minimum GPA of 2.25 at AUM, the requirements for
membership are a strong sense of academic, moral, and self responsibility.
Membership in Lambda Chi means an experience like no other in your college
life. We strive to make the most of our stays at AUM through our excellence in
academics, social and service activities outside the classroom, leadership
opportunities and sharing friendship and networking with brothers who are friends for life.
Lambda Chi Alpha was the first of all fraternities to abolish its traditional
pledge program in 1972. Membership in Lambda Chi begins as an Associate
Member. During this time Associates are given Big Brothers and learn our
history, our purpose and essential elements of Fraternity life. Associate
Members are in no way subjected to mental or physical degradation or any other
form of hazing commonly associated with "pledging."
Students at AUM interested in membership are invited to meet our members and
decide if Lambda Chi is right for them. Contact our recruitment
chairman,
Hunter Bond (334-558-7416), if you'd like to
learn about or to join in one of our many social activities. We
also welcome you to fill out an information
form so that we can learn more about you.
So what's
important to Lambda Chis?
Academics:
The first purpose of Lambda Chi is to foster academic achievement. The reason
we are all together at AUM is higher education, thus, a Lambda Chi holds
academics as his highest priority. Our scholarship program teaches our members
useful study habits and rewards academic achievement.
Social:
In the hectic world of academia, a Lambda Chi must balance his course load
with some form of a social life. Lambda Chis enjoy activities of all kind,
from canoeing to sorority swaps to movie nights to date parties and
formals to weekend get-togethers.
So what's Lambda Chi have planned? There are always plenty of social events
planned on our calendar. Not to mention the random gatherings among brothers
that seem to plan themselves. Come see the fun we have and join in on the fun
to come. What are you doing this weekend?
Leadership:
In an organization that practices equality among all members and
responsibility, leaders emerge to handle the chapter operations. Lambda
Chi provides many opportunities for leadership through our structure. In the
so-called "real world" that college graduates eventually enter,
developed leadership skills can make the difference in career advancement. Can
you afford to not have leadership experience?
Responsibility:
Lambda Chi teaches responsibility to chapter, college, community and country.
A Lambda Chi must have a strong moral character and be responsible for his
actions. Lambda Chi's members have proven themselves to be responsible
academically, socially, financially and morally.
Involvement:
Lambda Chis make their mark all around campus. The fraternity does not occupy
all of its members' lives. We are encouraged to explore our interests in
extracurricular and recreational activities on campus and in the community.
Internationally, Lambda Chi holds the record for the largest single-day
philanthropy of all Greek-letter organizations. On the first Saturday of
November, all chapters participate in the North American Food Drive to collect
food for the needy in their respective communities. We have collected
over 2 million pounds of food in the past 2 years and our chapter has
consistently been among the top chapters in pounds collected each year.
For recreation, we enjoy participating in AUM's intramural sports programs,
fielding teams in nearly all sport offerings. Also, most Lambda Chis are
involved in other student organizations and honor societies.
Brotherhood:
Brotherhood is a term that has never been easy to define with words. At the
same time, it is brotherhood which holds these aspects together. Brotherhood
is what makes Lambda Chi greater than the sum of its parts.
So how do we know what we can't describe? Each of us has experienced
brotherhood in one form or another, in a way unique to each brother. It is
personal in nature, and it can only be experienced personally. Are you ready
for it?
