All initiated
members remain an active member, as opposed to an alumnus, until the time that
they graduate from AUM, marry, or otherwise stop attending AUM for a
sufficient time that it becomes evident that they have no intention to
return. Further, if a member decides to transfer from AUM to another
college, that member can affiliate with the Lambda Chi chapter at that
college if there is one. There are eight Lambda Chi chapters in the state of
Alabama, so you'll likely find one if you transfer to an in-state
school. All initiated members who do not meet any of these triggering
events will remain an active dues-paying member of our chapter for 4 years, or
8 full academic semesters (fall and spring semesters).
Financial Requirements:
The following are some of the
mandatory costs associated with membership:
I. One Time Fees - These fees
are delivered directly to our International Fraternity:
A.
Associate Member Fee (to be paid prior to the association ceremony) - $85
B.
Initiation Fee (to be paid prior to initiation) - $150
II. Insurance - Lambda Chi
Alpha has a wonderful insurance policy in place to protect its chapters and
members from liability. Insurance premiums are paid directly to our insurance
carrier twice per year in February and October. The premium amount is $37.50.
III. Monthly Dues - These membership dues go
to support our active chapter's operating budget and our different areas of
programming - $85
Scholastic Requirements:
To remain a
member in good standing, a member must maintain a 2.25 GPA. Members that fail
to maintain this GPA are subject to being placed on probation and cannot
participate fully in chapter events and opportunities, such as holding an
elected office. We have an elected officer whose sole responsibility is to
maintain a program that allows all members the opportunity to succeed
academically and to recognize and reward success.
